Headline charities announced for Crewe’s Krazy Races!

Hopes and Beams and St Luke’s Hospice have been announced as Crewe’s 2024 Krazy Races official headline charity partners.

The free to attend, national award-winning soapbox derby event will visit Crewe on Sunday 14th July. Limited team spaces remain for a maximum of 40 teams made up of locals and businesses who will build, design and race weird & wacky soapboxes down Broad Street in Crewe.

Danny Scoffin, Head of Brand & Strategic Development at Krazy Races; “We decided to let the people of Crewe select our charities and they didn’t disappoint, with over 1000 locals casting their vote. 2023 was a record breaking year for us with our events raising over £100,000 for charity. Our ambition is to raise even more this year and we are confident that this is more than achievable with our partnership with these two fantastic charities.”

Jane Whetnall MBE, Co-Director of Hopes & Beams, “This is such fantastic news! We are all so excited to be part of the Crewe Krazy Races, just down the road from where we are in Broad Street. Not only is this a great opportunity for us to fundraise but also for the children we support to have a really fun day out! The money will help support our charity’s vital work for the most vulnerable members of our community and we thank all the people who have kindly voted.”

Andy Bailey, fundraising team at St Luke’s Hospice; “We are delighted to be one of the headline charities for Krazy Races. For over 35 years, St Luke’s has provided care and support to people across Crewe at a time in their lives when they need it most. Our staff and volunteers love getting involved in our communities as much as possible and we can’t wait for this event!”

A spokesperson from Crewe Town Council commented “We are so delighted to hear the outcome of the public vote for the Crewe Krazy Races Headline Charity! Both winning headline charities make a huge difference to Crewe residents, demonstrated by the high number of votes both received from local residents. We hope that the funds raised through the event will allow both Hopes and Beams and St Luke’s Hospice to continue their fantastic work.”

Event organisers have already received a high number of team entries in to the race that will take the form of a knockout style competition with multiple trophies and prizes. Applications for team entries are open but limited spaces remain. Applications will automatically close once the maximum 40 team threshold is reached.

Information on how to enter can be found on The Krazy Races website.
