The Town Council has been talking to Cheshire East about what can be done to help businesses that are suffering due to the major road works in town associated with the partial closure of Manchester Bridge. Our colleagues at Cheshire East have provided the information italics below. Please could you share that information with businesses that might be suffering and let us know how you get on.
‘Please be aware that you can make an appeal for a temporary reduction in your Rateable Value where roadworks that are due to last for more than 4 months are affecting your business. The Valuation Officer can give consideration to a temporary allowance in your Rateable Value dependant on the severity and duration of the problem and if this would affect the rental value of your property. Any reduction in Rateable Value cannot compensate for all business losses. You must make your appeal to the Valuation Office as soon as possible after the works have started or whilst they are ongoing as an appeal cannot be made once they have been completed. Any notes, photographs or evidence of a fall in trading accounts may assist the Valuation Offices judgement of the situation.
To make an appeal please contact the Valuation Office using the following details:-
