Crewe Tree of Light Ceremony 2017

Crewe Town Council is pleased to announce that it is working in partnership with Orbitas and LoveCrewe for the Annual Tree of Light Scheme in Crewe.

The Scheme was officially launched today (Monday 18th September 2017) by Councillor Diane Yates, Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Lesley Smetham, Director of Orbitas and Deputy Mayor of Cheshire East, and Pastor Phil Worthington from LoveCrewe.

The concept of the Scheme is to let a light shine in memory of loved ones, no matter where they may be buried, by dedicating a Star which will be placed on the Tree of Light in Crewe Cemetery over the Christmas period.

Stars can be collected and returned to a number of distribution points around Crewe which include the Crewe Cemetery Office, Crewe Town Council Offices, Municipal Buildings, Churches and Funeral Directors. A full list of distribution points can be found below and dedicated Stars must be returned before Friday 17th November 2017.

The Mayor of Crewe dedicated the first Star to Councillor Mike Russan who passed way in September 2016.

Councillor Diane Yates, Mayor of Crewe said ‘The Town Council is pleased to be working with LoveCrewe and Orbitas on this wonderful community event. Christmas can be a very difficult time of year for those who have lost loved ones and we hope that we can help keep their memories alive by remembering them.’

Pastor Phil Worthington from LoveCrewe commented ‘We are honoured to be a part of bringing a light to Crewe for those who are missing their loved ones. We would like to encourage the people of Crewe to join in whether it be by dedicating a star or by coming to the Ceremony in December.’

Councillor Lesley Smetham, Director of Orbitas and Deputy Mayor of Cheshire East, said ‘Orbitas is very happy to be working in partnership with the Town Council and LoveCrewe on this lovely event. I wish this new venture every success and that we all are able to support the residents of Crewe remember their loved ones at an important time of year.’

The Crewe Tree of Light Ceremony will take place on Friday 1st December 2017 at 6pm in Crewe Cemetery.
