Councils unite to improve the cleanliness of Crewe Town Centre

A jointly funded service managed by the Town Council and Cheshire East delivered by ANSA is set to go ahead in early April. The service will enhance the cleanliness of the town centre especially the main routes into the centre.

Cllr Simon Yates, Leader of Crewe Town Council stated ‘I’m very pleased that this project is going ahead and want to make clear that this is to deliver an enhanced service above and beyond that which is provided at present, it is an investment in Crewe to help make sure the town stays as pristine is possible. There is of course a limit to what one extra person  can deliver, but this is significant and provides what could be described as a ‘flying squad’ to tackle small scale issues as quickly as possible’.

Cllr Brian Roberts, who is a member at Cheshire East and the Town Council added ‘As those people who have followed issues of cleanliness and fly tipping on social media will know I am passionate about sorting out some of the problems that are clear to all. Together we can make the town more pleasant and attractive. I’d invite members of the public to contact me to point out where there are simple issues that can be quickly solved, I’d also make a plea to everyone to think about the place where they live and work and to help reduce the challenges we face by acting responsibly where littering is concerned.’

‘We have already seen considerable improvement in the town centre, the deep clean last year made a huge difference and with public support and increased enforcement the challenge of keeping things clean and tidy has become more straightforward, I thank the public for that. Part of the work that will be undertaken will be to look after the general street scene in the town centre. That is soon to get a double boost through the joint investment by Cheshire East and the Town Council in the replacement of what is acknowledged to be some very tired infrastructure’.

The investment consists of a suitably equipped operative working five days per week with the full support of the team at ANSA. It is anticipated that through social media the impact of the service will clearly be demonstrated using before and after pictures.
