A Vision for Crewe lends its support to MMU Cheshire Campus Students

A group of second year Primary Education Trainee Students from Manchester Metropolitan Cheshire Campus ventured into Crewe Town Centre on Monday (16th May 2016) to discover some of the towns heritage.

As part of their course, students need to undertake a local history study which can then be passed on to Primary School students when they learn about their local area.

Joined by A Vision for Crewe – Crewe’s Community Plan and Crewe Town Council, students gained access to Crewe Library, the new Lifestyle Centre, Lyceum Theatre, Municipal Buildings as well as visiting Big Bill on Market Square, the railway cottages on Tollit, Betley and Dorfold Streets, Britannia War Memorial on Memorial Square as well as discovering more detail about some of what is left of the Towns historical architecture.

As part of the new Primary School curriculum, teachers are required to support pupils to discover the heritage and history of the community in which they live.  This is the second time A Vision for Crewe – Crewe’s Community Plan has supported MMU Cheshire Campus students to learn in an interactive format, the first being in September 2015.

Ben Wye, Primary Education Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University Cheshire Campus, said ‘We want to keep our talented students in Crewe and many, as we often find out, they don’t realise what is available to them on their doorstep.  We at MMU Cheshire Campus often work alongside A Vision for Crewe in a variety of different ways to support students with their studies.  We thank them immensely for highlighting what a wonderful place Crewe is.’

A spokesman for A Vision for Crewe said ‘We are thrilled to have MMU Cheshire Campus as one of our Community Partners and it is a pleasure to be able to support students by introducing them to some of our heritage delights in Crewe.  One of our many aims to the help empower young people with their studies as well as to raise Civic Pride and access to the towns history and heritage.  We welcome local schools, groups and organisation to help make Crewe a better place to learn, live and love to be in so get in touch and let us know how we can help.’
