Councillor Pam Minshall, Mayor of Crewe, joined over 100 Wulvern residents to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
Crewe Town Council has worked very closely with the Royal British Legion – Crewe Branch to organise an afternoon of entertainment and reflection to mark the end of World War Two in Europe.
The afternoon started with a recording of Winston Churchill’s historic VE Day speech followed by musical entertainment from Gilly the Songbird and to complete the 1945 theme, a buffet of cucumber sandwiches was enjoyed by all.
Councillor Minshall said ‘VE Day saw a mass celebration throughout the country to mark the end of the War. We came together today to mark the occasion and remember all those who were so tragically lost.’
Stuart Kay, Royal British Legion Crewe Branch, said ‘It was a privilege for the Branch to take part in the VE Day celebration at Pickmere Court. Some of the people present were there seventy years ago when the first celebrations took place. To share this day with them was very special.’
