Budding writers of all ages are being encouraged to put their memories of Crewe down on paper.
Crewe Town Council is working with local community group Creative Crewe to record memories of Crewe.
Carrying on from last year’s literary event, the partners have launched Crewe Telling Tales as an ongoing words and literary project starting with the Telling Tales of Crewe Competition.
Councillor Suzanne Brookfield, Acting Chair of the Community and Environment Committee, said ‘The Town Council is very pleased to be continuing our partnership with Creative Crewe and developing the Crewe Telling Tales project. We really look forward to reading peoples recollections of Crewe.’
Carol Wilkinson, Chair of Creative Crewe, said ‘Local people often share their memories with one another so why not put them down and create a living archive of our Town? Come on Crewe – you can do it!’
There will be many further elements to this this project. The first of which will be held at the end of April with Celebration of Words and Music Week. The week will culminate with a Poetry Night in the Pickle Jar, Queens Park on Friday 1st May at 6.30pm. Entry will be £3.00
Submissions need to be no more than 500 words and has to be about your own memory of Crewe. There are two categories – Under 18 and 18 and Over. Please include a separate cover page with your entry which includes your name, address, email and contact telephone number.
Anyone wishing to enter the competition need to pick up their pens now! Deadline for submissions are 5pm on Thursday 16th April 2015. Two cash prizes of £50 will be awarded in each category, one from each category.
