Operation Summer school holiday activity programme returns to Crewe

Crewe Town Council is pleased to announce that Operation Summer will return for its third year, featuring an exciting family-friendly programme of over 130 FREE summer activities that will keep the kids entertained during the summer holidays (24th July until 31st August 2024).

Develop your cartooning skills with Marc Makes Comics… cavort with 6 metre long Brimstone the Dragon in Queens Park… take part in thrilling Mad Science experiments… experience outdoor theatre and storytelling that will captivate the imaginations of all… and more!

All of the activities are free-to-access family sessions. A small number of activities at Crewe Library require attendees to book – please visit the Crewe Town Council website for more information. For each event, children need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Operation Summer 2023 had a significant impact on local families, with 90% of those who gave feedback stating that the programme had reduced the financial burden of the summer holidays and all respondents giving a 100% satisfaction rate.

The schedule is being delivered by Crewe Town Council and will take place at various community locations:

  • Crewe Library
  • Crewe Heritage Centre
  • Christ Church
  • Crewe Market Hall
  • Local parks (including family fun days in Queens Park)

Crewe Town Council has also funded Street Sports and Pop Up in the Parks projects to encourage young people to spend more time out of doors, have fun in a safe space and be more active. These sessions will run throughout the school summer holidays in local parks and are delivered in partnership with local organisations Everybody Leisure and The Wishing Well.

The full programme of activities can be accessed via the Crewe Town Council Operation Summer webpage:

Promotional leaflets will be distributed to local schools, Crewe Library, Crewe Heritage Centre and a range of other key community locations.

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson commented: “Last year’s Operation Summer programme was a huge success and we are thrilled to see it return bigger and better than ever!”

“We’ve provided free family-friendly activities for most days through the summer holidays, hoping that this will help to keep children and families entertained and engaged in Crewe without costing them a fortune.”

“We really appreciate the work our partners have done in helping to co-ordinate the delivery of events and activities for local families around the town.”
