Crewe Town Council has purchased five defibrillators which will be sited across Crewe in order to help save lives in the event of a cardiac arrest. The equipment has been funded through Crewe Town Council’s Health & Wellbeing Fund – Community Plan Committee. So far three units have been installed and registered on the national defibrillator database.
A defibrillator is a device that gives an electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone in cardiac arrest. Without defibrillation a person in cardiac arrest will die. The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust state that using a defibrillator within five minutes can result in survival rates as high as 70% and that otherwise, less than 1 in 10 people will survive a cardiac arrest.
If a medical emergency is experienced near a defibrillator location, a call should be made to 999 for further guidance and to obtain the access code (if appropriate).
The three units have been installed by local Crewe company Powerhive Electrical, in the following locations:
- Blitz Fireworks, Hightown, CW1 3BS
- Wishing Well Project, George’s Community Centre, West Street, CW2 8SL
- The Cheese Hall pub, Earle Street, CW1 2BS.
Each location will be responsible for undertaking weekly checks of the equipment. The location of the remaining two defibrillators will be announced in the coming weeks via Crewe Town Council’s Facebook page, with the intention being that the units will be distributed across Crewe to ensure the greatest coverage possible.
A Crewe Town Council representative commented: “We are delighted to have been able to fund and deliver the defibrillator project across Crewe. It’s a worthwhile project, which might just end up saving a life. The potential difference that these defibrillators may make within our community is invaluable, please tell your friends and family about them.”

We are incredibly grateful to Crewe Town Council for selecting The Wishing Well to host this defibrillator and whilst we hope it is not needed, it is reassuring to have such equipment available if it is required.”
