For International Women’s Day 2022, Crewe Town Council has donated a set of books about fantastic women from the past to each primary school within Crewe. The books have all been written by women and feature inspirational stories about women throughout history who have made an impact through social change, science, sport and the arts.
The donation will help to encourage the next generation of amazing young women in Crewe to make their mark on history and for young men to champion the women around them.
The books were delivered to each primary school by the Crewe Town Ranger team, with Crewe Town Mayor -Cllr Tom Dunlop – delivering a set to Hungerford Primary School.
As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, the Mayor was also recorded reading an extract from one of the selected books. It highlights the story of Marie Curie from the book “Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World” by Kate Pankhurst:
Thanks to Crewe Library for hosting the storytime session, to Rangers Craig and Dean for delivering the books and to Nantwich Bookshop and Coffee Lounge for supplying them!
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also works towards furthering women’s equality.
