Crewe Christmas lights switch on in style!

Christmas in Crewe began with an evening of sensational festive fun on Thursday 27th November 2014.

The huge crowd were wowed when the Mayor of Crewe switched on the ‘bright Christmas lights of Crewe’ and were treated to a spectacular closing firworks displays thanks to Blitz Fireworks.

Earlier in the evening, sparkling performances echoed around the Town thanks to Ruskin School, Matrix Cheerleaders and the Funky Choir.

Over 20 ‘Bright Light Cyclists’ from Smarter Ways to Travel (SWTT) joined Santa’s parade from the Market Centre to the delight of children and families all around.

The Grinch popped in to Town to try and steal the Christmas lights but cheered on by the crowd, Santa soon saw him off.

Councillor Kevin Hickson, Leader of Crewe Town Council, said ‘The Christmas lights shows what a difference the Town Council makes to Crewe.  The turnout was excellent and there was a real buzz as the big moment drew near and the Mayor switched on the lights.  The lights are very attractive and improve the appearance of the Town at this festive time.  Moreover, it encourages shoppers to Crewe, which is essential for a more vibrant Town Centre going forward.’

Councillor Pam Minshall, Mayor of Crewe, said ‘The evening was a massive success and a fantastic start to the festive season.  I would like to thank all those involved for taking part and bringing such a wonderful atmosphere to the Town.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a ‘Merry Crewe Christmas’.
