Nearly 500 people took part in our VE (Victory in Europe) Day 80 ‘Street Party’ event on Lyceum Square as part of the VE Day 80 celebrations on Saturday 10th May! The Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Dawn Clark, opened the festivities which featured live performances, family activities and moments of reflection.
Families, veterans, performers and people from all across Crewe’s community came together in the glorious sunshine to mark the occasion! Attendees sang along and danced to live performances from local singer Faye McCallum, vintage performers Rockabilly Dolls and local line-dancing group the Crewe’s Liners.
The Crewe branch of the Royal British Legion were on hand to provide advice and support, alongside the Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club (AFVBC). Commemorative readings were given by Nancy Kay (the Chair of the Crewe RBL) and Chloe from the RAF Cadets.
Children took part in a Little Historian Treasure Hunt to locate historic images around Lyceum Square – and were rewarded with delicious treats from Broo Cafe as prizes!
Thank you to everyone who came along to join in the fun – and also to the attending Crewe Town Councillors for volunteering their time, volunteer stewards, the Crewe branch of the Royal British Legion, AFVBC, the RAF Cadets, Broo Cafe, the performers and our volunteer photographer Peter Robinson for photographing this special event.
