On Tuesday 10th May, Crewe Town Council elected its fourth Mayor at their Annual Town Council Meeting held at Ruskin Community High School.
95 Squadron (Crewe) ATC Drum Corps and the Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West marked the start of proceedings with a spectacular fanfare and percussion piece as Councillor Dennis Straine-Francis processed in to formally open the meeting.
The first item on the Agenda was to appoint the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the forthcoming twelve months. Councillor Jill Rhodes nominated Councillor Marilyn Houston to be elected as Mayor and Councillor Suzanne Brookfield nominated Councillor Diane Yates as her Deputy Mayor.
Following a busy Mayoral Year, Councillor Straine-Francis exchanged the chains of office with Councillor Houston and wished her all the best for the forthcoming year.
Councillor Kevin Hickson gave a vote of thanks to the outgoing Mayor and presented him with a Past Mayor’s Medal which was specially engraved by John Pass Jewellers.
Councillor Marilyn Houston, the newly elected Mayor of Crewe, said ‘I would like to thank Councillor Straine-Francis for representing Crewe during the past year. I am very privileged to become the Mayor of Crewe. I really look forward to meeting more of the Towns residents and to promote the great work which goes on in Crewe.’
‘I also announce that my chosen charities are Crewe and Nantwich Cancer Research UK Group and Crewe Alexandra Ladies Football Club. I look forward to working with them both and I hope that everyone will join me in trying to raise funds for these excellent charities.’
