Councillor Simon Yates, Leader of Crewe Town Council, would like to pass on the seasons greetings on behalf of the Town Council.
“I’d like to wish everyone in Crewe, and indeed further afield, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Crewe Town Council. The past year has flown by and I’m proud of what has been achieved. It is gratifying to have such positive comments about the visible things that the Council does such as the floral displays and the expanded Christmas illuminations. As Councillors, we continue to work hard on the less visible things such as the implementation of the Community Plan, investment in the allotments and to deliver grant support to community organisations in Crewe.
The Council is also playing its part at a strategic level as exemplified by meetings with Ministers on HS2, support for the improvement of the town centre and the development of the Crewe Pledge. It may be a ‘curse’ to say that we live in interesting times, but in this instance, Crewe is set for what I believe to be a rebirth. Not since Victorian days has the town had an opportunity to morph and develop into something new and exciting. I and my fellow Councillors want to help that process, to retain what is good about Crewe, but help the town to move forward and use investment to grow and address the acknowledged issues.
The Council is a voice for Crewe and over the last twelve months more and more people have become involved and engaged with the Council. From 2016 onwards, I want to see more people attending Council meetings to have their say about what is important. I’d like to see more groups applying for Council grants and I want to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit. If you want to do something beneficial for Crewe, then how can the Town Council help?
So, please enjoy a good festive period and look forward to another exciting year in Crewe.”
