Christmas in Crewe 2013 kicked off on the 27th with the largest crowds for the event in recent years at the lights switch on event. Cheshire East Council staged the event for Crewe Town Council in the market square. Santa and the Grinch were out to entertain the crowd and were ably supported by Tom Seals and KT Perry. The event culminated in the traditional Blitz firework display to herald the start of the season.
The switch for the lights was thrown by the Mayor of Crewe Cllr Irene Faseyi who told the massed crowds prior to the switch on that she hoped everyone would enjoy the event and that the Town Council was proud to provide the event for the people of Crewe. This was the first of what is hoped to be year on year spectaculars.
The Council would like to thank all of those involved in the production, onstage, offstage and those who worked over the last few weeks to set up the event.
The Town Council handed out 250 shopping bags containing free gifts and would like to thank the Design Office, Crewe Lyceum, Christian Concern Crewe and the Body Shop for help in putting the gift package together. The gifts were funded by the DCLG with help from NALC and the support of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils.
