The Town Council is pleased to announce that the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) with support from the Cheshire Association of Local Councils (ChALC) have agreed funding to the tune of £25k to support the Town Council in its first year of operation.
There is a national agenda promoted by the DCLG to enhance local democracy by encouraging the formation of new town and parish councils especially in urban areas. Crewe as one of the newest and largest councils to be formed is to benefit from this timely opportunity.
Cllr Kevin Hickson, Leader of the Town Council said ‘We are enormously grateful for this help and really value the help from ChALC especially who identified this opportunity and batted for Crewe to receive these funds’
‘We have submitted our plan of how we will spend the monies within the terms of the agreement, headline priorities are to install signs on the boundaries to Crewe welcoming people to the Town, to instil civic pride by branding some of the services we already provide such as the summer planting, to pep up the commercial centre in the summer by providing the town centre with bunting and to buy the town flag to fly from the Clock Tower. It is fantastic news we can now do this’
Jackie Weaver, Chief Officer of ChALC said ‘We are proud to have been part of the creation of a new Council for Crewe and the recognition from Central Government of the importance of these new Councils is just the icing on the cake’.
